Ssekamatte on the brace as Bright Stars complete double over Mbarara City

Samuel Kayongo Ssekamatte continued with his scoring form with a first half brace as Soltilo Bright Stars beat Mbarara City 3-1 at Kavumba.

Derrick Ngoobi scored the other to ensure Bright Stars complete their first ever league double over the Ankole Lions.

Ssekamatte opened the scores in the 23rd minute with a brilliant header from Andrew Kaggwa’s well delivered cross.

Bashir Mutanda levelled the scores three minutes later with a low drive struck at the edge of the box.

Three minutes later, Ssekamatte restored the lead with a neat finish from Joseph Janjali’s cross and ensured a 2-1 lead at half-time. His brace took his tally to 12 goals, one behind the top scorer Yunus Sentamu.

Joseph Akandwanaho evades a challenge from an opponent

Defender Derrick Ngoobi made it 3-1 in the 68th with a rebound from Ssekamatte’s free kick which had came off the low post.

The victory took Bright Stars to 37 points and on level with KCCA and Police who face off on Wednesday.

The Baker Mbowa coached side will play against BUL FC in their next game at Bugembe on Saturday 15th May.

Mbarara City who are now 12th with 26 points, will play against Onduparaka at Kakyeka on the same day.
