Ugandan left winger Godfrey Walusimbi “Jajja Walu” was on the score sheet as Gor Mahia earned a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Zanzibar outfit JKU to storm the semi finals of the Sportspesa Super cup.

George Odhiambo alias “Blackberry” opened up the scoring at the Afraha stadium in Nakuru in the 29th minute with a superb finish off a wonderful spadework from Francis Kahata.

Ivorian Ephrem Guikan had squandered Gor Mahia’s glorious chance to draw first blood in the 22nd minute when he had his penalty kick saved by the JKU custodian Muhammad Abrahman.

Walusimbi brilliantly doubled the lead from outside the box after being set up by Cercidy Okeyo who had initially stepped up to take a strategic free kick in the 35th minute.

The second half saw Walusimbi being replaced by Wesley Onguso inside the last quarter of the game.

Meddie Kagere who had replaced Francis Kahata earlier on made it 3-0 with a brilliant diving header off a Bernard Ondiek quality cross from the right wing in the 82nd minute.

Gor Mahia will await for the eventual winner between AFC Leopards and Shafik Batambuze’s Singida United who tussle it out on Tuesday 5th June.

Meanwhile, Paul Nkata coached side Kakamega Homeboyz became the first team to book a berth in this year’s semi finals after upsetting Tanzanian giants Yanga Africans 3-1 in the early kick off.

Allan Wanga scored an early brace for the Homeboyz but he was replaced by Ugandan forward Hassan Kikoyo due to injury in the 62nd minute.

Matteo Simon had narrowed the deficit for Yanga in the 38th minute but Wycliffe Opondo killed off the game in the 85th minute to ensure Paul Nkata goes off the mark with a 3-1 victory.

Nkata who was appointed at the start of last week together with his charges will take on the winner between Simba SC of Tanzania and Kariobangi Sharks.

The winner of this year’s Sportspesa super cup will set up a date with English side Everton football club at the Goodison park.
