Soroti City FC becomes first team to gain promotion to Big League

North Eastern Regional League side Soroti City FC club (former Light SS) has become the first team to get promoted to the FUFA Big League.

Soroti City beat Basere FC 1-0 after extra time in a playoff game played at the Oligoi Stadium in Soroti.

Isaac Odeke scored the all important goal in the extra time following a barren full-time stalemate.

Soroti City FC made it to the promotional play off final having topped the Kyoga Group with 35 points from 14 games.

On the other side Basere FC also topped the Bisina Group with the same number of points from the same number of games.

The newly promoted side had Simon Otim as their head coach.

Otim had three assistants; Gabriel Enumu, Alex Omagor and Isaac Enyaku.

Lawrence Olaboro of Soroti City FC emerged the top scorer with 17 games.

Kumi University FC, Zoe FC, Omerein FC and Agirigiroi have been relegated to the lower division.

Seven more teams from the other FUFA Regions will join Soroti City as the eight newly promoted teams in the 2022/23 FUFA Big League season.
