Soana FC put an end to a 6 match winless streak with a vital 2-1 victory over fellow relegation strugglers UPDF at Kavumba. The result not only brought a halt their 4-match losing run but also brought life to their survival hopes.

Allan Kayiwa got off the mark in the 13th minute for the Kavumba outfit converting from the spot to punish UPDF for Joseph Othieno’s reckless play in the forbidden area.

Pate Wanock extended Soana’s fragile lead few minutes to the closure of the first half. The gigantic forward tapped in from close range to finishing off a well laid ball by Davis Ssali.

Unlike the first half, UPDF dominated the final 45 minutes of the game through relentless attacks in a bid to at least level the scoreline.

Steven Bogere made a host of changes bringing on Abdul Noor Lukwata and Mustafa Dongo for Allan Kizza and Mustafa Kasolo respectively. Titus Lubega was also brought on for left back Johnson Lumansi in a desperate move to surge the attack.

Titus Lubega found a consolation through a penalty kick when he beat the Soana goalie by inches following a foul on Abdul Noor Lukwata in the box.

The army side will however loathe squandering the goal scoring chances they had on the evening with Ezekiel Katende the biggest culprit.

The 2-1 win propels Soana to the 12th place dislodging UPDF with 31 points garnered from 29 games played.

The defeat dents UPDF’s survival hopes as they sit 13th placed with 29 points accumulated from 29 games having played one more than their rivals Express (14th) and Proline (15th).

UPDF will have to force a positive result against title chasing Vipers SC at Kitende on the closing day of the league (25th May 2018).

Soana will play hosts to Maroons at Kavumba on the same date.
