Shafiq Kagimu enchanted by first senior national team call up.

Kagimu sweeps off a challenge from Rwandese defenders in the first leg of the CHAN qualifier at Kitende.

Kagimu’s star is on a tremendous rise, after having had a stellar 2016/17 season which he capped with a nomination for midfielder of the season at the Same premier league awards. He has today morning been included in a 27 man squad to prepare for Egypt in the qualifiers to the World Cup Russia 2018 by Interim Cranes boss Moses Basena.

He was also an integral figure in seeing Uganda sweep aside South Sudan and Rwanda enroute to qualification to the Championships of African Nations a tournament preserved for players who ply their trade in their local domestic leagues.

Interim coach Moses Basena has always been a big fan of the URA play maker after having signed him for the tax collectors in 2015 from Big League side Water FC. A delighted Kagimu couldn’t hide his excitement upon receiving news of the call up. He said,

” I am exceedingly delighted for this great opportunity offered to me, it’s a massive chance and I have always dreamt of representing my country on the big stage like this one “.

” I am very grateful for the confidence that the coaches have vested in me all throughout even the CHAN qualifiers and now the bigger stage, I hope to work harder and force myself self into the final squad for the match Insha Allah”.

Kagimu did not forget to acknowledge the fact that it has been always by devine intervention that he has reached this milestone. He added,

” I glorify Allah for He has always been my source of guidance and inspiration, I hope He continues to move with me as I see out this challenging task ahead of me.

” My Club and coaches at URA FC have always been supportive of me and I believe I will continue working hard to make them proud”.

Kagimu has been previously invited to train with the national team under the departed Micho Sredejovic but Basena has given him his first official call up to the senior cranes team.

The cranes will face Egypt on a double tie in group E of the World Cup qualifiers, they are currently lying 2nd on 4 points behind leaders Egypt on 6.
