Konyaspor Kulübü 4-3 Istanbul Basaksehir
Farouk Miya scored a first half brace as Konyaspor defeated table leaders Istanbul Basaksehir 4-3 in the Turkish Super Lig encounter played on Monday night.
Miya got off a bad start after handling the ball in the box in the second minute of the game and subsequently gave Istanbul a chance to take the lead through a penalty kick.
Miya got booked by referee Cuneyt Cakir while Edin Visca flawlessly converted from 12 yards for the visiting leaders.
The Uganda Cranes forward made amends with an equalizer, a brilliant finish off a well-delivered cross from left-back Alper Uludag in the 20th minute.
Eight minutes later, Konyaspor took the lead through their skipper Omer Ali Sahiner.
Miya stretched the lead with an exquisite strike right before the halftime whistle. He controlled a deflected shot, turned and sent a powerful right-footed shot past the Istanbul BB goalkeeper.
The second half saw Istanbul Basaksekir trying to chase the game and thereafter brought on the experienced legs of Eljero Elia and former Real Madrid and Manchester City winger Robinho among others changes.
It was Demba Ba, the Senegalese forward who found Istanbul Basaksehir’s second goal in the 70th minute and exerted more pressure onto Konyaspor.
On 74 minutes, Miya was rested and replaced by defender Selim Ay but four minutes later Dutchman Eljero Elia made it 3-3 with a close-range finish.
Slovakian right back Nejc Skubic scored the winning goal for Konyaspor from a well-laid ball in the 85th minute.
The 4-3 win lifted Konyaspor from the drop zone to the 14th place on 33 points from the 32 games played. Only a point separates Konyaspor from the relegation zone.
The final two games of the season will see Miya and teammates take on Trabzonspor (away from home) on Saturday 18th July and Alanyaspor (at home) on Sunday 26th July.
Miya has scored a total of eight league goals, registered one assist and got booked on four occasions in the 24 games he has played this term.
