Douglas Bamweyana named three new faces and only four substitutes on his bench when relegation battling SC Villa faced URA FC at Mandela national stadium.
The 16 time record champions badly needed to win or at least garner a point to improve on their points tally in order to extend the gap between them and the bottom trio of Ndejje University, Nyamityobora and Paidha Black Angels .
They started the match in high spirits and they looked to be the more expensive team on the day.
Newly appointed captain Ashraf Mandela was presented with a glorious opportunity to get his team in front but his lack of composure cost him dearly when he failed to direct an in swinging Derrick Ndahiro cross in the 15th minute.
Bashir Mutanda and Lincoln Mukisa were also handed chances but they put them to waste.
The Jogoos were made to pay for their profligacy in the 37th minute when Patrick Mbowa headed in a Tayo Odongo cross that beat Said Keni. The former Proline goal keeper was making his debut for Villa.
URA ended the first half in the lead but on a sad note of losing captain Shafiq Kagimu to injury, he was badly injured in the eye after a rough challenge from youngster Derrick Ndahiro.
Kagimu was rushed to hospital and replaced by Moses Seruyidde.
Bamweyana tried to chase for an equaliser in the second period by introducing another debutant Benson Muhindo for Lincoln Mukisa, Mike Serumaga also paved way for Habib Kavuma and Ambrose Kirya came on for Albert Mugisa who had a below per performance compared to his standards.
Benson Muhindo had a keeper to beat opportunity in the 80th minute but the rookie striker fell shot of connecting with the ball.
Habib Kavuma also wasted a glorious chance after being set up by Bashir Mutanda, the veteran defender failed to loop the ball past Nafian Alionzi who had just replaced the injured James Alitho.
Villa remain winless this year with their last victory in the league coming on December 14th 2018 against arch rivals Express FC.
URA will next travel to the Arena of visions in Ndejje on the 5th of February whereas SC Villa hosts Bright stars on Wednesday the 6th of Feb 2019.
