Emmanuel Wasswa scored the all important goal as SC Villa edged their fierce rivals Express FC 1-0 at Bombo Barracks Grounds.
In a largely tepid contest lacking quality on both sides, Wasswa headed perfectly a David Owori quality cross in the second half to inspire record champions to victory that saw then complete a double over the Red Eagles for the first time since the 2014/15 season.
Express FC still in flux under George Ssimwogerere and struggling for consistency had some decent chances in the second period but Daniel Shabena and Frank Ssenyondo failed to hit the target.
In the first half of the game, Owori had a great opportunity to fire the hosts in the lead but was denied by Express FC goalie Mathias Muwanga.
Muwanga also saved Bashir Mutanda and Nicholas Kabonge efforts early into the second period.
On the 68th minute mark, Muwanga was finally beaten by a powerful Wasswa header to send the hosts fans into ecstasy.
By the end of proceedings, the record champions smiled to a 1-0 win over their rivals.
Victory sees Villa move to third place with 33 points garnered in 19 games while Express FC who suffered their 10th defeat are on 21 points.
Villa next face Police FC on Monday 3rd February at StarTimes Stadium whereas Express FC will entertain Mbarara City on Sunday at Kavumba.
