SC Villa aim to build on impressive record as they host Mbarara City

SC Villa will welcome Mbarara City in a Uganda Premier league contest on Wednesday at Bombo Grounds.

Villa played out to a 2-2 draw with BUL FC in their opening game while Mbarara City drew with URA FC 1-1.

This will be the sixth meeting between the two sides, Villa have won three, drew one and lost once in their previous five meetings against the Ankole Lions.

Mbarara City’s only victory over the record Uganda Premier League champions was a 2-1 win in 2018.

SC Villa head coach Edward Kaziba says that his charges will be aiming at maximum points in their first home game of the season

“The first home game of the season is always important, and we are fully aware of this. We need to start off our home games with a win.”

“We have a great record over our opponents but that is in the past now. A lot of things have changed since then, we are going into this game basing on the present conditions not the past.” Stated Kaziba.

Left back Derrick Ndahiro and Mohammedi Nsereko are available for selection while Benson Muhindo is suspended for this fixture. Custodian Saidi Keni remains out due to license issues.

The hosts will look up Emmanuel Wasswa and Nicholas Kabonge for inspiration.

Mbarara City will be without head coach Brian Ssenyonjo who traveled with the U17 team, his assistant Meddie Kisekka will be in the dugout.

The Mbarara outfit will also miss the services of Jude Semugabi, Makueth Wol, Bebe Swalik, Godfrey Kalungi, Karim Ramathan and Siraj Musindo.

Forward Bashir Mutanda traveled with the team and will be in contention to face his former paymasters.
