Fulltime ended goalless with the hosts dominating proceedings but without a breakthrough.
Substitutes Harold Moukoudi, James Lea Siliki and Clinton N’jie failed to convert their penalties in the shoot out and granted Egypt a slot in the final.
Goalkeeper Abo Gabal Gabaski perfectly saved penalties from Moukoudi and Lea Siliki while N’jie sent his effort far wide.
The Egyptians scored through Zizo, Mohamed Abdelmoneim and Mohanad Lasheen.
Captain and striker Vincent Aboubakar scored Cameroon’s only shoot out.
The Pharaohs will be facing Senegal in the final slated for Sunday 6th February.
Senegal beat Burkina Faso 3-1 in the first semi final thanks to goals from Sadio Mane, Ahmadou Bamba Dieng and defender Abdou Diallo.
The Lions of Teranga will be playing in their third AFCON final having previously lost the one of 2002 and in the previous edition to Algeria.
While Senegal have not won the AFCON before, Egypt will be seeking to win their eighth title.
It will also be a battle between Mane and his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah.
The duo have been very inspirational for Liverpool in the English Premier League.
