Henry Mwimuka, coach of the Rwandan Basketball club Patriots, who are the 2016 Rwanda’s Basketball local league Champions went on to name his provisional squad for the FIBA Africa Zone V championships due to take place from 1st to 7th of October at the MTN Arena Lugogo. All eyes will be on the former Oilers’ player and Congolese born, Kami Kabange who was named among other players.

Patriots will be making their 3rd appearance in this tournament since their debut in 2015, a tournament that was hosted by Rwanda.
Patriots and IPRC-South will represent Rwanda in the men’s category while APR will represent in the Women’s category.

Patriots will be looking at emulating the success of Espoir a fellow Rwandan side that won the same tournament in 2012 and went on to reach the finals when Uganda hosted it. Patriots ambitions were made clear by Henry Mwimuka,  “We want to win it and qualify for FIBA Club championship finals in Morocco”.

Patriots will also be looking to undo memories of the 2016 editions in Dar-es-Salam where they failed to make it to knock out stage having had a great debut in earlier in 2015 where they finished 3rd.

Patriots’ Provisional squad:
Aristide Mugabe (captain), Sedar
Sagamba, Steve Havugintwari,
Didier Ishimwe, Walter Nkurunziza ,Joseph Bukuru, Olivier Kamilindi, Elie Kaje, Jean de Dieu Ntagunduka, Lionel Hakizimana and Kami Kabange.
