Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has announced amendments of new rules regarding the fielding of foreign players in Rwandan football competitions.

In an Executive Committee meeting held on August 2, FERWAFA increased the number of foreign players allowed to play for a club on a match day from three to five.

It was amended that any foreign player who is signed from outside Rwanda will have to be below the age of 30 years.

For any club to sign a player who is above the age of 30, he must be a national team player in at least the past three years.

However, the rule doesn’t apply on players who are already playing in Rwanda.

In the same docket, second tier clubs have been allowed to field only three foreigners.

The Rwandan Women’s top tier clubs are allowed to field three foreigners but women teams in the second-tier are not allowed to use foreign players.

FERWAFA has also confirmed that the 2021/22 Primus National League will kick off on October 16 2021. APR won the shortened version of the 2020/21 season unbeaten.

Last season, Ugandan striker Yafesi Mubiru emerged as the league’s joint top scorer with 10 goals while featuring for Sunrise FC.

Pius Wangi, Ibrahim Ayub Kizza, Sulaiman Majanjalo, Hood Kaweesa, John Musasizi, Hassan Kikoyo are some of the Ugandan players that took part in last season’s Rwandan league.
