Rukundo’s APR win Rwanda Derby to go second

Rukundo and fellow APR players celebrate their derby victory

Dennis Rukundo’s APR FC were 1-0 victors away to Rayon Sport in the Azam Rwanda Premier league encounter a result that sees them move to second.

Ugandan born and former KCCA FC, Maroons right back Dennis Rukundo featured for his side APR Fc and played 71 minutes before he was replaced by Martin Fabrice Twizerimana. He was also booked for delaying to get off the field following his substitution.

Fellow Ugandan Yasin Mugume was not in the match day squad on the hosts side for unknown reasons.
Rayon Sport FC looked the better side in the opening 20 minutes dominating possession and missed a few scoring chances.

In the 26th minute, Muhadjiri Hakizimana gave the visitors the lead capitalizing on poor defensive communication from Rayon Sport back line beating helpless custodian Eric Ndayishimiye.

5 minutes to halftime goalscorer Muhadjiri Hakizimana who had earlier been booked was sent off for simulation leaving his side reduced to ten men.

The second period APR FC were more defensive following the red card incident in the first half.
By the end of proceedings APR FC held on to secure all three points.

The win also sends APR FC to 2nd on the table of the Rwanda topflight division with 21 points, two adrift of leaders SC Kiyovu, whereas Rayon Sport following defeat sits in fourth place with 18 points.
