Ugandan female attacker Ritah Kivumbi was on target for Mallbackens IF in their 4-3 home defeat to Alingsas United in Saturday’s Swedish Women Elitettan (second tier).
Fresh from signing a contract extension at Mallbackens IF, Kivumbi scored her first goal of the season with a sublime strike from about 20 yards.
Kivumbi was marking her first start this season and ensured a slim halftime lead for the home side.
Alingsas United fought back in the second half through Pernilla Milton and Ina Osterlind who scored a hat trick including a late winner in the 82nd minute.
Felicia Edgren and Fanny Flyckt scored the other goals for Mallbackens in the 62nd and 68th minutes.
Flyckt replaced Kivumbi on 66 minutes before scoring two minutes later.
For starters, Rita Kivumbi is a Ugandan forward who recently joined Mallbackens from Swedish women’s top-flight side Vaxjo DFF.
Kivumbi is a former St. Mary’s Kitende and Lubiri SS student who last featured for UCU Lady Cardinals in Uganda before moving to Sweden in 2016.
Her compatriot and former teammate Viola Nambi was also in action as Vaxjo DFF lost 3-0 to Linkopings Women in the Swedish Damallsvenskan (top-flight league) on Saturday.
Nambi came off the bench in the 90th minute to replace Stina Lennartsson.
Both Nambi and Kivumbi were part of the Uganda U-20 team that obliterated South Sudan 22-0 on aggregate in 2013.
Kivumbi will return to action on Wednesday 1st July as Mallbackens IF host Kalmar.
Nambi and her Vaxjo DFF teammates will host IK Uppsala on Saturday 4th July.
