Uganda Hippo’s striker Derrick Kakooza emerged the Topscorer of the AFCON U-20 tournament in Mauritania.

His spectacular performance caught the eye of many and definitely only the sky would be expected to be the only limit for the youngster.

A few weeks after the tournament, Ugandan football lovers smiled with the news of one of their own in Kakooza having secured a move to Europe to join Belgian Giants Anderlecht SC on a five year contract.

However, despite the looming move, the Police FC forward has remained home to date and he is currently with the Uganda U-23 Team for CECAFA tournament in Ethiopia.

The footballer’s Agent who doubles as a member of Parliament representing Bukomansimbi South and also the shadow minister of Sports Honorable Geoffrey Kayemba Solo has revealed why his client is still home to date.

Speaking to this website, Hon Kayemba Solo said that the deal has only been delayed because there are difficulties in travels from Uganda due to Covid-19.

He said, Uganda was highlighted because of the surge of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are currently banned from traveling to some countries and Belgium is one of such countries. The players is willing to go and the Team(Anderlecht) is ready to receive him. We are only waiting for such an opportunity to come so we can make that long awaited move.”

There has also been rumors making rounds that it’s the agent trying to fail the deal by hiking the price tagged on the player but he calls this mere propaganda.

“I should tell you there is a lot of propaganda in our industry(sports) especially here in Uganda. I personally have no interest in seeing the player here, my wish is to see him play professional football especially in Europe. I am only interested in seeing my client shine at a professional level which means I cannot at the same time be a stumbling block to this development.”

Kakooza, a graduate of Uganda Police Football Club Junior Team is also a former student of St Mary’s Kitende who started his football career with Naguru Police Academy.
