South African side Chippa United want to acquire Ismail Watenga on a permanent basis from champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
According to South African publication Kickoff.com, Chippa United is set to meet with Sundowns over the acquisition of Watenga ahead of the new season.
Watenga joined Sundowns on a three year deal last year before switching to Chippa United on a 19-month contract.
“The club will meet with Mamelodi Sundowns to discuss about the possibility of keeping Watenga again next season.”
A close source told Kickoff.com
Watenga joined Chippa United in December last year but had to wait until April 12th to make his debut as the Chilli Boys lost 2-1 to Sundowns.
The former Vipers shot stopper played an instrumental role for Chippa keeping 6 clean sheets and conceding five goals in the nine games he featured in.
Overall, Watenga played 13 games for Chippa, kept 8 clean sheets and conceded seven goals across all competitions.
His exploits at club level elevated him to a return to the national team and featured Uganda Cranes’ 3-2 defeat to South Africa in a friendly match.
Chippa are in preparations for the 2021/22 DSTV Premiership season after surviving relegation early this week.
