Regional League sides Mbale Heroes, NEC FC clash for round of 16 berth

The Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 continues on Tuesday with four games on the menu.

Kampala Regional League side NEC FC make a long visit to Mbale City to take on Mbale Heroes at the Sansiro grounds.

Mbale Heroes compete in the third tier (Eastern Regional League) having been relegated from the FUFA Big League last season.

Mbale Heroes are currently coached by Simon Ddungu beat Big League side Blacks Power 4-1 to reach this stage.

On the other hand, NEC FC beat another Eastern Regional League club Admin FC 2-0 in the round of 64 at Bugolobi.

NEC is an acronym of National Enterprise Corporation, a commercial arm of the Ministry of defenses and Veteran affairs and the UPDF.

They are expected to rely on striker Marvin Kavuma for inspiration having been an influential figure this season. They currently lead the Scorpion Group with 28 points, six more than second placed Impala Hill.

Mbale Heroes also lead the Bukedi Group of the Eastern Regional League with 26 points from 10 games.

The Mbale side boosts of some experienced players from the Uganda Premier League like their skipper Musa Malunda formerly at Vipers, Abbasi Kiberu from KCCA and UPDF and goalkeeper Didi Mohamed Kasule among others.

Historically, Mbale Heroes won the Uganda Cup under the names of Gangama United in 1976 and Dairy Heroes in 1999.
