Red hot Mutanda on the brace as SC Villa see off Express

SINAN RAJUB SENOGA

SC Villa 2-0 Express FC

Live wire striker Bashir Mutanda grabbed a brace as SC Villa put rivals Express to the sword at Namboole.

The SC Villa marksman found the back of the net in the 27th minute before doubling the score line at the hour mark to take his season tally to 9 goals.

Express had an opportunity to steal lead on two successive occasions in the early moments of the game but the finishing of Tony Odur and Eric Kambale was left something to talk about.

Mutanda punished Express for the wasted chances when he exquisitely finished off a wonderful Ashraf Mandela spadework with a left footed hard shot 3 minutes to the half hour mark.

The visiting team brought on winger Joel Male for Mubarak Nsubuga to orchestrate a comeback, a move that barely made a change.

Isaac Mutanga was at fault for SC Villa’s second goal after losing possession to Derrick Ndahiro who set up an onrushing Mutanda to fire home from about 12 yards.

Kefa Kisala withdrew Odur and later Badiru Nsubuga for Nasir Mbabali and Davis Mayanja respectively but none of the moves brought progress.

Douglas Bamweyana on the other hand threw on Mike Serumaga for youngester Charles Lwanga to keep the opposition defense troubled.

Serumaga almost found the third for the Jogoos only to be denied by the goal frame with the keeper Ronald Mutebi already beaten.

SC Villa’s home win of the season grants them bragging rights over their bitter rivals and elevate them a spot higher from the 13th place with 12 points.

Express remain 8th on the log with 16 points garnered from 12 league outings.

The wounded Red Eagles will hope to bounce back in their subsequent fixture against Nyamityobora at Wankulukuku on Friday 28th December.

SC Villa will make a long trip to West Nile to face off with Paidha Black Angels on Saturday 29th December.
