Proline settle for second place finish despite win over Water FC

Proline FC missed out on the direct promotion place despite winning 3-1 against Water FC in their final regular season match at Lugogo.

Coming into the final day of the Big League regular season, Proline who were second on the Rwenzori Group table needed victory while hoping their rivals Tooro United fail to win against Kigezi HomeBoyz.

Tooro United won 1-0 at Wankulukuku thanks to Marvin Oshaba’s strike from the penalty mark

The result meant Tooro United maintained their lead on the Rwenzori Group table and subsequently won direct promotion back to the Uganda Premier League.

Second half goals from Diego Hamis Kiiza, Hamza Mulambuzi and youngster Alpha Thierry Ssali inspired Proline against Water who were also battling to beat the drop.

Following a goalless first half, Kiiza broke the deadlock two minutes into the second period with a tap-in from Rogers Mato assist.

Mulambuzi made it 2-0 in the 74th minute before Tonny Kasujja pulled one back for Water FC from a penalty kick.

Alpha Ssali put the game beyond question with a penalty inside the five added minutes.

Proline finished with 29 points, five above third placed Nyamityobora who also booked a place in the promotion play offs.

Proline will play against Blacks Power while Nyamityobora will face Gadaffi FC in the promotion play off semi finals.

Water finished sixth with 14 points and one place above the relegation zone.
