Pride at stake as Villa hosts Vipers

By: David Gombe

This is always one of the games that football fans in Uganda don’t want to miss.
Villa host Vipers tomorrow in Masaka looking to get a double over Jorge Da Costa’s men in a game that is set to be the battle for only second place, since neither side can win the title

Vipers has recently proved that they are now among the giants in Ugandan football, something teams like Villa,Express and Kcca possessed in the early 80s,90s,mid 90s and early 2000s.
No doubt these were the three traditional teams that could drive Ugandan football as Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal in England.
Just because non of these teams will be fighting for the trophy, the 2nd place will be a great a achievement both for pride and faith in Kcca winning the Uganda Cup.
Since they ( Kcca) have a place in next year’s CAF Champions league play offs, this gives chance to who ever who takes the 2nd place in the league.

However, times have changed Sc Villa and Express are no longer the same teams.
Teams that could intimidate opponents something only Kcca still rides on these days.
Villa come into this game second with 52points on the Azam premier league log while the visitors Vipers are third on 49points.
Vipers come into after humiliating Onduparaka 4-1at St Mary’s stadium Kitende and Villa’s last game was a 2-0 win away to Soana.

Villa coach Wasswa Bosa says,” We want to finish the season on a high, it’s bad that we are neither going to win the title nor any trophy but we want to make our fans proud and seal second place”, Vipers’ Erisa Ssekisambu who once played for Villa told Swift sports, ” I was at Villa won the 2015 Uganda cup with them, but now am at Vipers we have prepared well for the game tomorrow and i expect a positive result tomorrow,” Mike Sserumaga will also be facing his former employers too.

This will be the 14th meeting between both sides in the league with Vipers winning 6,drawn 6,and lost once the 2-1 defeat in the first round.
Moses Waiswa is still out injured,Pius Wangi and Frank Tumwesigye “Zaga” and Asiku Bashir all taking part in the national secondary schools football competitions in Masaka

Record league champions Villa will take on the 2015 champions Vipers only fighting for second place ,Vipers patron Lawrence Mulindwa has paid entrance fees for Vipers fans who will travel to Masaka for the game tomorrow.
