President Museveni flags off Uganda’s Tokyo 2020 Olympics bound team


The President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has on Friday, July 9th 2021 flagged off the Uganda Olympic and Paralympic teams.

Museveni accompanied by the first Lady also Minister for Education and Sports Janet Museveni flagged off the team at Kololo Ceremonial grounds and called upon the Olympiads to go to Tokyo and rise the Ugandan flag.

“I would like to congratulate all of you for qualifying for the Olympic games.” I call upon each of you to be discipline and not waste your chances. You also need to be careful of coronavirus this time round because it is another big issue and so do not mix up with anybody in Japan.”

Go and complete and make your country and yourselves shine in Japan. “

Museveni stated.

Team Uganda will be be led by 2012 Olympic Marathon gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich at the delayed global games in Tokyo.

Team Uganda will be represented by 26 athletes from Athletics, Boxing, rowing and swimming.

The first batch is already in Japan for acclimatization and further training in preparation for these games.

These include; the national boxing team (Bombers) Musa Shadir Bwogi, David Ssemujju, Julius Ssekitoleko, female boxer Catherine Nanziri and free style swimmer Ambala Atuhaire.

The rescheduled games are slated to begin on July, 23rd to 8th August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.
