Pius Kaggwa strikes late to earn Police priceless win over Wakiso Giants

Pius Kagwa struck in injury time as Police FC edged Wakiso Giants 2-1 on Tuesday evening at StarTimes Stadium.

Viane Sekajugo fired the visitors into the lead after 17 minutes but the home side rallied back in the second half through Ben Ocen and Kaggwa.

We are only 9 games into the league season and there is a formidable task for Abdallah Mubiru’s side to overcome relegation and the manner of this triumph, will further fuel belief.

It is a win Police FC needed, one that could turn their season around and a tough defeat for Wakiso Giants.
It was a win born of drive and holding their nerve and win in which the Cops’ attacking triumvirate rose to the occasion.

Sekajugo gave the Purple Sharks the lead in the 17th minute to send the traveling fans into a frenzy.

Two minutes later, Muwadda Mawejje nearly doubled Kefa Kisala’s advantage but his effort from 20 yards kissed the crossbar.

In the second period, Police had the mental strength, the intensity, momentum and determination to overturn a result which would have piled more pressure and doubts on their coach. They banished all of that.

With the clock ticking, Ocen restored parity with a superb left footed shot to beat custodian Yasin Mugabi.

Moments later, Kaggwa nearly scored the second for the home side but his effort hit the post.

His goal finally came in the first minute of additional time when substitute Edward Kiryowa who had earlier on replaced Johnson Odongo released him to calmly secure maximum points for the hosts.

Police who will next travel to Maroons on Saturday 2nd November at Luzira grounds are second from the bottom with 5 points whereas Wakiso who are now eighth on the log with 13 points will next host Express FC.
