Peter Onen undergoes first successful operation

Former Uganda Cranes and The Cubs(U-17) head coach Peter Onen has today Thursday 9th-November undergone a successful operation at Gulu Referral Hospital.

Onen was involved in an accident in Gulu City which injured both his hands and broke his right leg leaving him helpless.

Alexander Okidi a sports journalist working with Vision group but based in Gulu City (a writer with Rupiny news paper and Luo TV) and spearheaded the campaign looking for financial support confirmed,

The operation which was conducted by three orthopedic surgeons one based in Gulu and two who had to travel from Kampala lasted for almost six hours.”

“Both hands have successfully been operated but could not continue on the leg since power went off and the generator in the hospital was weak for an operation.”

Another operation that is on the leg is expected to be done in a weeks time.

Onen is remembered for guiding the U-17 national team to the maiden AFCON qualification after winning the maiden CECAFA U-17 Zonal tourney in Tanzania.

He has previously worked with Layibi College Gulu, St Julian High School Gayaza, BUL FC and Acholi Province in the FUFA Drum tournament.

By the time of the accident he had been ear marked as the potential replacement for Mark Twinamasiko on the role of head coach at newly promoted UPL side Kitara FC.
