Algeria’s Younes Nemouchi outclassed Uganda’s David Ssemujju Kavuma in the Middleweight round of 32 bout at Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo.
The Algerian won the epic contest on unanimous points decision (5-0) to book a place in the last 16.
Nemouchi won with all the judges’ score-cards reading 30-27, 30-27, 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27.
Despite a spirited performance, Ssemujju’s dream for an Olympic medal comes to an end.
This was the third meeting between the two African top fighters with the Algerian recording his second straight win over the Ugandan. Ssemujju’s win against Nemouchi was at the 2019 All Africa games in Morocco.
Nemouchi who progressed to the round of 16 will face Marcial Eumir dubbed as the next Manny Pacquiao of Philippines.
Following Ssemujju and Catherine Nanziri defeats, Uganda’s winless run in the opening bout of the Olympic games continues.
Sam Rukundo is the last bomber to go beyond the first bout when he managed the feat at the 2004 global games in Athens with his journey coming to an end in the quarterfinals.
