Shadir Musa Bwogi is set to throw Uganda’s last punches of hope at the ongoing Olympics against Georgian Eskerkhan Madiev in the Men’s Welterweight at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo-Japan.

The Bombers captain will be up in arms to light Uganda’s only remaining candle in the Boxing sport.

Born in 1996, Bwogi has previously represented Uganda at the 2014 Light welterweight division in Tanzania’s Julius Nyerere Cup, 2017African Championships in Congo Brazzaville and 2018 Common Wealth games in Gold Coast – Australia.

Other Ugandan Boxers Catherine Nanziri and David Ssemujju have their chances already shattered by Japanese Tsukimi Namiki and Algerian Nemouchi Younes respectively in the round of 32.

Having got a bye in the previous round, Bwogi will have his campaign begin in the round of 16.

The Naguru born sealed an all important qualification to Tokyo after trouncing Ghanaian Jessie Lartey in Diamniadio in Dakar, Senegal in the African region qualifiers. The 24 year old Ugandan won by a unanimous decision.

On the other hand, Bwogi’s opponent Madiev is a Russian born, Georgian citizen who qualified to Tokyo after putting up a brilliant performance in the European qualifiers in Paris, France.

Madiev made it to this round after defeating 2016 Olympic Silver medalist Soromaya Calazo Lorenzo of Azerbaijan in the round of 32.
