Africa’s hopes of having two representatives at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the Women football tournament were dealt a blow when Cameroon fell to 2-1 loss at the hands of Chile.
The first leg that was played at the Arslan Zeki Sports complex in Antalya saw Chile take a deserved lead thanks to Camila Saez’s header in the 27ty minute.
As Cameroon searched for a leveller, their opportunities fell to Ajara Nchout and Gabriella Onguene failed to find the target.
It was the Chileans instead who found the next for the second time through Carla Guerrero in the 75th minute.
All hope was not lost for the Africa side when the dependable Nchout found a consolation which also provided a life line going into the second leg.
At 2-1 Cameroon can fight back and qualify for the prestigious competition when they meet again on April 13 at the same venue in the city of Antalya. They will play as the visitors this time.
Zambia have already qualified as Africa’s representatives for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Africa were apportioned 1.5 slots for the competition.
