The Federation of Congolese Football (FECOFA) has declared TP Mazembe as the champions of the 2019-20 season which had about seven rounds to officially conclude.
This follows discussion of the FA with clubs on how the season would be concluded since football has been on a suspension in the country since March 15th due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to the pandemic break, TP Mazembe were leading the Vodacom Ligue 1 table with 53 points collected from 20 games played.
AS Vita were second on the table with 48 points but had played three more games than TP Mazembe.
This implies that Joseph Benson Ochaya wins his second league title with the Lubumbashi based outfit since joining them in October 2018.
The Uganda Cranes lanky left back played a total of 16 games for the Ravens, scoring one goal, providing three assists and getting booked on one occasion.
He also played five games in the CAF Champions League campaign that saw TP Mazembe bow out of the tournament at the quarter final stage.
Tout Puissant Mazembe remain the most successful club in DR Congo with 18 league titles and a total of 36 trophies overall.
TP Mazembe and AS Vita Club will represent the country in the CAF Champions League next season.
AS Maniema Union Kindu and Darling Club Motema Pembe who were occupying the third and fourth places on the table, will once again feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Lowly placed sides AS Nyuki and Olympic Club Bukavu Dawa have been relegated in the process.
DR Congo joins others countries which have concluded their respective leagues due to the COVID-19 outbreak, that is Cameroon, Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya, Niger, Mauritius, Congo Brazzaville, Liberia and Burkina Faso.
