Obenchan earns KCCA maiden victory over Mbarara City

KCCA 1 – 0 Mbarara City

Second half substitute Filbert Obenchan nodded home in the 51st minute to earn KCCA a long awaited maiden win over Mbarara City.

Prior to this game, the defending champions had never won a game against the Ankole Lions in five attempts.

Defender Samuel Kato nearly scored the first goal of the game in the third minute but goalkeeper Muhammad Ssekeba parried the ball out for a corner.

Both teams kept trying to find a break through but goals could not easily come and by halftime it was still barren.

Enter the second stanza, Mike Mutebi introduced Obenchan for youngster Musa Ramathan.

KCCA’s number 28 needed only five minutes to find a break the deadlock with a superb header off Hassan Musana’s perfect cross.

Another second half substitute John Odumegwu found the back of the net at the stroke of full time but the referee cancelled the goal for offside.

Mike Mutebi’s charges have now collected 35 points from 16 outings. Their next game will be a trip away to Bright stars FC on Tuesday 14th January while the Lions of Ankole have 19 points from the same number of games.
