It required a moment of brilliance for Nyamityobora to complete a sensational comeback in their derby victory over Mbarara city.

The midfielder profited from Methody Bassey’s hopeless loss of possession on the half way line, he moved 10 yards with the ball and launched a rocket towards goal and it beat Ali Kimera who had moved off his line.

Prior to the match, James Odoch was operating on borrowed time after being served with an ultimatum of winning 2 matches or face the sack.

He named a strong motivated eleven who started the game pressing their hosts high.

Despite their impressive opening 40 minutes, Mbarara city were the team to draw first blood when Hilary Mukundane headed in a perfect delivery from Paul Mucurezi with only seconds to the break.

Odoch withdrew Derrick Kigundu for Charles Musige and Ibrahim Dada for Charles Sebutinde a move that proved to be a master stroke.

Their comeback started in the 70th minute when Charles Musige pounced on a lose ball that Mbarara city’s defence failed to deal with to bury home a fierce shot past Kimera.

The biggest turning point happened moments later when Karim Ndugwa was presented with a glorious opportunity to win it Mbarara but he chose to pass the ball to Umaru Mbusa who miss kicked the ball and it went into the waiting hands of Hillary Jomi.

With Brian Miiro preparing to inquire from the 4th official about the minutes to be added on, Akandwanaho launched his package that sealed Nyamityobora’s first ever victory in the top flight of Ugandan football and ultimately earn the bragging rights of the Mbarara derby despite it being played in Buganda.

Nyamityobora’s next task will be a home game to Police FC on the 30th of October,  whereas Mbarara city will visit KCCA FC at the star times stadium in Lugogo on 31st October 2018.
