No Nalukenge as Ayub Khalifa names Uganda’s final squad for CECAFA U20 tournament

Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi has confirmed the final squad of the U20 Women’s team that will represent Uganda in the inaugural CECAFA Women’s U20 Championship.

Ayub has named a squad of 23 players to represent Uganda in the tournament that will kickoff on Saturday October 30th at Njeru.

Uganda’s lead striker Juliet Nalukenge will miss the tournament as she travels back to Cyrus for club engagements.

Nalukenge was integral in the team’s comprehensive 10-3 aggregate victory over Kenya in the U20 Women’s World Cup this month.

She has also featured for the senior side Crested Cranes in the two games against Ethiopia in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

Fauzia Najjemba, the skipper for the U20 team is expected to lead Uganda’s attack alongside Margaret Kunihira who has been impressive for both the junior team and the senior side.

Defender Stella Musibika makes a return from a long term injury lay off and is expected to compete for a place in the central defense with Bira Naddunga and her Kawempe Muslim teammate Aisha Nantongo.

Asia Nakibuuka who features in central defense for Crested Cranes, is another addition in the team.

Uganda will start the campaign against Burundi on Saturday at FUFA Technical Center at 4:00pm.

The next game will be against Djibouti on Monday before facing Eritrea, Ethiopia and Tanzania in the subsequent fixtures.
