Paul Nkata’s side Kakamega Homeboyz progressed to the Sportpesa Super cup semifinals with an emphatic 3-1 win over Tanzania side Yanga in the quarterfinals on Sunday at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

This was his first game since his appointment last week. Allan Watende Wanga gave Kakamega the lead in the 26th minute when he fastened on a loose ball inside the box and unleashed a sensational strike.

Four minutes later, Yanga defenders hacked Wanga inside the 18 yards box and the Ethiopian referee Belay Tadesse didn’t hesitate to point to the spot.

Wanga was entrusted with the responsibility and converted it calmly to complete his brace. At the break the Kenyan side was leading 2-0.

In the second half, Ugandan tactician brought off Allan Wanga, Bhai Ali and Noah Wafula and introduced on Hassan Kokoyo, Wycliffe Opondo and George Mandela.

His counterpart Noel Mwandila, the Yanga assistant coach brought on Ibrahim Migomba, Hamis Tambwe and Yusuf Mhilu for Akilimali Baruan, Mahadhi Juma and Simon Matheo.

Wycliffe Opondo sealed the result for Nkata’s charges in the 86th minute beating Yanga goalkeeper Rostand Youthe who had a busy day.

After the game Paul Nkata was delighted and expressed his joy during the post match conference,

“I knew if we contained the opponents and we don’t concede a goal in the opening 15 minutes. We would emerge the winners as I played them in January this year in Mapinduzi cup while at URA and I knew their weakness.”

Kakamega Homeboyz will await the winner between Kariobangi Sharks and Simba SC who face off today in Nakuru.
