NETBALL: Uganda Men’s team off to South Africa for International Championship


The Uganda Men’s National netball team (the Rock) has departed for Pretoria, South Africa for the International Males Netball Championship.

The team was officially flagged off on Friday at the National Council of Sports headquarters.

NCS General Secretary Dr.Bernard Ogwel, Kampala University proprietor Professor Al-Hajji Badru Kateregga and the Uganda Netball Federation President Hon. Sarah Kityo all attended the flag off ceremony.

Twelve players have traveled to South Africa and will be coached by former She Cranes coach Vincent Kiwanuka.

Kiwanuka is optimistic that his troops will have a successful competition

“We have been training well for the past weeks and we are very ready for the competition.” We are heading to South Africa to compete not to participate.”

This is the first time since 2008 that the Uganda Men’s team is taking part in an international competition. In 2008, the Uganda U21 men’s team participated at the championship that was staged in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Rock will face off with hosts South Africa, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, East African neighbours Kenya among others.

Oryen Stephen, Kigozi Gonzaga Conza, Kimbowa Hussein, Muzahura Wilberforce, Wasswa Disan Mubiru, Ssekyondwa Bonny, Eppa Richard Eric, Katumba Juma, Kato Hassan Nouredine, Ssenfuka Joseph, Santino Mandut, and James Bogere.
