Mukwala hits former team as URA takes table leadership

URA FC scored in either half to overcome Vipers SC and consequently took over the leadership of the table of the Uganda Premier league.

Shafiq Kagimu scored at the stroke of half time when he hit the ball on the rebound. Fabien Mutombora had spilled over Mukwala’s shot which fell into Kagimu’s path who made no mistake but to score his routine goal against Vipers.

Kagimu’s goal was the only highlight of the first 45 minutes which was dominated by long balls and fierce midfield battles.

Trailing at half time, Fred Kajoba introduced Paul Mucurezi and Ceaser Manzoki, a move that swung the tide of the game into Vipers hands.

Yunus Sentamu came close to finding an equaliser for Vipers but Hannington Sebwalunyo acrobatically punched the ball over the bar in the 70th minute to protect URA’s lead

Vipers’ search for an equaliser was dented a huge blow when Bashir Asiku lost possession to Steven Mukwala close to the 18 yard area and the former Vipers striker made no mistake but to send a rare left footed rocket that beat Fabien Mutombora to create a 2 goal cushion for the tax collectors in the 59th minute.

Kajoba again made a double substitution by introducing U20 star Richard Basangwa and Joseph Dhata for Bobos Byaruhanga and Abdul Karim Watambala .

With 17 minutes to go, substitute Ceaser Manzoki headed in Disan Galiwango’s free kick to set up an nervy finish of the top of the table clash.

Unfortunately for the striker, he dislocated his shoulder following a clash with Benjamin Nyakojo and he got withdrawn for Denis Mwemezi.

His final contribution was Vipers’ too and all the 3 points went to URA FC.

They go top of the league with 33 points. They visit Onduparaka un their final round one match, whereas Vipers SC host KCCA on Wednesday 17th next week at St Mary’s Kitende.
