SC Villa missed a golden opportunity to create a huge gap between themselves and the other titles challengers when they lost 1-0 at home to Vipers
Dan Mzee Serunkuuma’s 30 minute strike has seen Villa’s lead on the table reduced to only 3 points with Vipers having a game to spare.
SC Villa created over 4 clear cut chances in the second period but Martin Kizza, Ayub Bogere, Alex Kitatta and George Senkaba were all guilty of failure to take the chances away
Assistant coach Paul Mukatabala has expressed his disappointment at his team’s failure to take away close to 3 clear cut chances that would have brought then back in the game. He said,
” It’s been the same song all season, we create a lot of chances but we hardly take them away. It was the same incident against KCCA FC at Lugogo and we were punished, it’s so hard to win a championship when you don’t put away your chances, Vipers got one chance and they converted it”.
Despite the loss, Mukatabala insists Villa’s title chase is still onand no need to give up yet.
” We are positive that we still have a serious chance in contention, we have a game in Mbarara and we hope to bounce back”.
” There are still more turns and twists in this title show down, we believe we still have a strong chance in this challenge, we have to fight up to the end. “
There was a section of fans that expresses their discontentment to the coaches, questioning the team selection but Mukatabala has played down their fears that,
” The team is selected according to how the performance in training, fans will always judge us according to results but today was just not our day”.
SC Villa will visit Mbarara City on Friday 27th April in a bit to revive the search for title number 17.
