While announcing his 23 man squad for the trip to South Africa, Cranes coach Abdallah Mubiru made a few omissions that lifted a few eyebrows.
Among them is Uganda Premier league top scorer Yunus Sentamu, in form Police FC midfielder Yusuf Ssozi, Mbarara city roving right back Innocent Wafula to mention but a few.
Mubiru urged the dropped group to continue working hard and exhibiting the same spirit they have done during the camp period.
” Everyone in camp still has a chance of making the squad, it is only a matter of when.”
“I am happy and glad with the effort and commitment by all members who have been in camp”
“Unfortunately we only managed to select 23 but everyone is still positive and only waiting for their chance. We are looking forward towards achieving better results”
Uganda will play against South Africa on 10th June in an international friendly in preparation for the Qatar 2022 World cup qualifiers.
The Cranes will play their first qualifying match in September this year. They are grouped alongside neighbors Kenya and Rwanda and Mali in group E.
