Joseph Mpande Mbolimbo scored two headers in either half to give Hai Phong FC a 2-0 win over Thanh Hoa FC in the Vietnamese V.League action on Tuesday afternoon.
Mpande who is also the club captain opened the day at the Lacy Tray Stadium with a diving header in the second minute of the game.
He would have doubled the lead 10 minutes later when a glorious chance came his way but could not beat a forest of legs in the goalmouth.
The former Vipers skipper finally made it 2-0 with a glancing header from a well-delivered corner kick in the 52nd minute of the game.
He brace took his season tally to five goals and keeps Hai Phong’s survival hopes alive.
Still in Vietnam, Moses Oloya featured in Hanoi FC’s 1-0 win over Hong Linh Ha Tinh as a central midfielder.
His compatriot Godfrey Baba Kizito also played full time as a right-back as Than Quang Ninh beat Hoang Anh Gia Lai 3-1 in a game he received a yellow card in the 43rd minute.
The Ugandan trio will return to action on Sunday. Mpande and his Hai Phong will face Nam Dinh.
Baba Kizito and Than Quang Ninh will host Ho Chi Minh City while Oloya’s Ha Noi will host Becamex Binh Duong.
