Mpande gets off the mark in Vietnam

Hai Phong 1-0 Hoang Anh Gia Lai

Joseph Mpande Mbolimbo was the hero as Hai Phong Football Club edged Hoang Anh Gia Lai 1-0 in the Vietnamese topflight league (V.League) on Saturday.

Mpande perfectly controlled the ball with his chest before striking home the winner from a tight angle in the 8th minute of the game.

The early goal was Mpande’s first in the Hai Phong colours since crossing over from Hantharwady United of Myanmar in February.

The former Vipers’ captain moved to Vietnam after scooping the golden boot of the MTP Myanmar National League with 18 goals.

The slim victory was Hai Phong’s third in a row after four league games.

Elsewhere, Godfrey Baba Kizito was also in action as his Sai Gon FC played a goalless draw with Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday.

Another Ugandan player, Moses Oloya was on the bench as Hanoi T&T thumped Song Lam Nghe An 4-0 on Sunday.

Table Standings
Oloya’s Hanoi T&T who are also the defending champions, lead the table after four games with 10 points.

Mpande’s Hai Phong comes third with nine points whilst Sai Gon of Baba Kizito lies fourth with seven points.
