Morocco see off resilient Comoros to advance to knock out stages

Morocco 2-0 Comoros

Morocco became the second team to reach the round of 16 of the ongoing AFCON tournament after seeing off a resilient Comoros side 2-0 in Yaounde.

The Atlas Lions scored a goal in each half through Selim Amallah and second half substitute Zakaria Aboukhlal.

As expected, it was a one sided affair but Comoros goalkeeper Salim Ben Boina put up a man of the match performance to deny a cricket score.

Amallah gave Morocco the lead in 16th minute with a shot from inside the box.

They would have doubled the lead through defender Nayif Aguerd but his header came off the cross bar in the 32rd minute.

The second half saw Morocco dominate the proceedings from the onset.

Ben Boina pulled brilliant saves to deny Ayoub El Kaabi, Sofiane Boufal and Achraf Hakimi.

He parried away Hakimi’s free kick before making a triple save on the goal line in the 77th minute.

The Ben Boina show continued when he saved Youssef En-Nesyri’s penalty in the 81st minute.

Morocco kept on searching for another goal and finally got it in the 88nd minute through Zakaria Aboukhlal who slotted the ball past Ben Boina from close range.

Morocco who now six points, will end their conclude the Group C campaign with a game against Gabon on Tuesday 18th.

Comoros will face Ghana on the same day.
