Mohammed Salah voted BBC African player of the year 2017

Egypt and Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah has been voted African Footballer of the year 2017

Salah the overwhelming favourite has beaten Gabon’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Guinea and Leipzig’s Naby Keita, Chelsea and Nigeria’s Victor Moses and teammate Sadio Mane.

Salah who guided Egypt to their First World Cup qualification since 1990, has also had a stellar year for Liverpool where he is currently leading the scorers’ charts with 13.

” I would like to thank my Liverpool teammates and I also had a good season with Roma so I have to thank my teammates there and my international teammates at the national team. Salah told the BBC

Salah follows in the foot steps of other African great like Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Didier Drogba, Patrick Mboma, Sammy Kuffour, El Hadji Diouf, Michael Essien Emmanuel Adebayor, Yaya You’re, Mohammed Aboutrika among others

He was enthused about emulating fellow countrymen who have also won the award like Mohammed Barakat and Aboutrika. He added,

“I am happy to be like them in winning this award, Barakat won in 2005 and Aboutrika did in 2008. “
