Farouk Miya scored his second league goal as his side HNK Gorica shocked giants Hajduk Split with a 2-0 away victory at the Stadion Poljud in Split.

Miya opened the scores on the evening in the 27th minute after easing past the defense to unleash a strike past goalkeeper Josip Posavec.

This was Miya’s second goal in two consecutive games having scored in their unfortunate 3-2 defeat at the hands of Inter Zapresic the previous week.

The former Vipers SC man had a chance to double the lead from a set piece delivery but his long range effort missed the goal by inches.

Polish striker Lukasz Zwolinski made it 2-0 scoring from the spot after Iyayi Believe Atiemwen was fouled in the box 4 minutes to the halftime whistle.

Miya almost made it 3-0 but was denied by the Hajduk Split goalkeeper a minute into the second half.

He was later withdrawn for Nigerian defender Musa Muhammad in the closing 6 minutes of the game.

Hajduk Split were reduced to 10-men in the second minute of the added time when Ahmed Said headbutted Gorica’s goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina.

Besides scoring, Miya has enjoyed quality playing time in the Croatian top tier, featuring in all the four games played so far this term.

This was HNK Gorica’s first win of the season since gaining promotion from the second tier. Gorica now sits 5th on the 10-team table of the Hrvatski Telekom Prva Liga with 4 points.

Miya and teammates will return to action on Saturday 25th August when they play hosts to second bottom placed Rudes FK at the Radnik stadion in Velika Gorica.
