Minister Obua flags off Uganda Rugby Sevens for Challenger series

Minister of State for Sports Hamson Denis Obua flagged off the Uganda Rugby Sevens on Friday Morning for the Challenger Series at Kyadondo Rugby grounds.

The two inaugural World Sevens Challenger Series will be played in South America in Vina Del Mar, Chile (15th-16 February) and Montevideo, Uruguay (22nd-23rd February.

Uganda made it to these events after coming second in Africa Rugby Sevens last year. Uganda Rugby sevens is in Pool C alongside Germany, Italy and Paraguay.

Obua urged the team to go and participate as well as competing

“The word success will come your way when you are prepared for it, you are flying out to participate and compete.” I wish you will and I believe that you are going to rise the Ugandan flag.”

On the limited resources given to the Uganda Rugby Union Obua said,

“I cannot commit or promise but we are lobbing for more resources to progressively move upwards for the success of the game.”

Uganda Sevens Captain Michael Okorach is optimistic ahead of the events

“We are very prepared for the event. We have got a lot of talent and skill in the team for upcoming tournaments.” I am sure that we are going to showcase our talent to the world.” He stated.

The team will be under the stewardship of Tolbert Onyango and will fly out to South America on Sunday 9th February aboard Emirates airlines.
