Vipers lost their first league game of the season at home to URA a team that has struggled to perform away from home.

They had a very good opening period and by the 5th minute, Milton Karisa had found the back of the net. Moments later, 12 minutes later,  Tony Odur got a golden opportunity to stretch the lead but he put it to waste.

URA fought back and beat them 2-1 thanks to goals from Henry Kisekka and Shafiq Kagimu. It’s against this background that Miguel Da Costa came out to accuse his team of incompetence and lack of responsibility.

“For the first time I am going to say this on my team, we were too incompetent and irresponsible, we failed to take our chances away, we could not create any chances and barely could we fight for the team”.

When asked to expound on his reaction towards the team after such a result, Miguel said that he gave them a muted response.

“Some times silence is bigger than ridicule, I couldn’t shout at them or talk to them immediately. I hope they will understand that I am not happy and they will look into themselves.”

The Portuguese tactician however told the media that regardless of the defeat, he managed to pick some positives from the game. He added,

” We created some good chances especially in the first half, our movement was good and everyone tried to express themselves but it’s quite unfortunate that we did not take away our chances and we were punished “

Miguel has refused to give in to the title race and he still has faith that his team are capable of returning to the fold despite being 8 points adrift of leaders SC Villa.

“This is a tricky championship where every team is capable of losing, the other time we lost to KCCA but the following week, they also lost to Proline and we won against Kirinya Jinja S. S. So a good run of wins can drive us back in contention.

Vipers next game will be on the 19th of December when they visit Express FC another team which is struggling to save their season having been dragged into the relegation dogfight.

Vipers have blown hot and cold , they were the overwhelming favourites to unseat KCCA but they have only managed 5 wins, drawn 5 and lost 3. They currently sit 5th on the log at 20 points behind Villa,  KCCA, Police and Onduparaka FC.
