Mbarara City winless run in the second round continued as they were held to a 1-1 stalemate by URA at Kakyeka Stadium.
It was not a start that the home fans expected when their side went down just after 26 minutes with Charles Sempa giving the visitors the lead off an assist from Shafiq Kagimu.
The first period ended with URA leading 1-0, though Mbarara City pressed hard for the equalizer before halftime break.
Mbarara City kicked off the second half with shire urgency of a wounded lion, making several attacks but URA defence stood up to all the challenges.
In the 62nd minute, Mbarara City leveled matters with former URA and Nigerian center forward Emmanuel Ibe Obina converting through a spot kick following a foul on him from Allan Munaba in the forbidden area.
The goal was the second for the Nigerian in his first two league appearances for the Mbarara based club , with the first one coming during the 2-1 loss to Maroons.
Despite both sides being desperate of three points they had to settle for a point following a one all draw. The home side made the following changes Bassey Methodius, Maqueth Wol and Siraj Musindo all introduced on for Elieza Okorie, Owen Kasule and Abdul Karim Kasule respectively.
The result leaves Mbarara City winless in the seven previous league games they have played.
The Ankole lions have lost thrice and drawn 4 and only accumulating four points out of the possible 21 points in their previous seven games. Sam Kawalya’s charges are 11th on the log with 22 points and will next travel to KCCA FC on Tuesday, 3rd, April, 2018.
URA on the other hand has now collected 7 points out of the possible 21 in the 7 games they have played in the second round. They have only registered 2 wins, lost 3 and this was the first draw for Nkata’s charges since the league resumption.
The stalemate sees the tax collectors stay 9th on the AUPL table with 27 points and will face UPDF in their next fixture.
