Ankole based side Mbarara city are under intensified negotiations with Paul Kiwanuka as their first choice to take over as head coach for the upcoming season and beyond.

The position remain vacant since the exit of Charles Livingstone Mbabazi and Sadik Sempigi who chose to go north at newly promoted Arua Hill.

City had initially struck a deal with former Wakiso Giants, Express and UPDF tactician Kefa Kisala, but the deal fell through at the eleventh hour.

The decision makers at Mbarara city have now zeroed in on Kiwanuka judging by his rich CV and experience at the top level having coached at Bright Stars under the capacity of assistant coach to Fred Kajoba and independently as head coach .

Kiwanuka was last season appointed by Vipers to guide the team through the final 10 matches following the resignation of his master under controversial circumstances, a job he performed to perfection.

He had initially been brought in by Kajoba as his right hand man .

Promoted to the topflight in 2017, the Mbarara city coaching job has been one of the most unstable ones with coaches being fired and hired at will.

Richard Makumbi, Livingstone Mbabazi (two tenures) Ibrahim Kirya, Paul Nkata, Brian Senyondo, Sadik Sempigi have all sat in the dugout for the Ankole Lions during their four life in Uganda’s topflight league.
