Mbarara City revived their hopes for survival with a timely 2-1 win over Jinja outfit BUL FC at Kakyeka Stadium.
Goals by Segujja Swalik Bebe and Nigerian import Emmanuel Ibe Obinna from each half were enough to secure all three points for the Sam Kawalya coached men.
With the game destined for a goalless first half, Segujja Swalik broke the deadlock for the Ankole Lions in the 44th minute.
Come the second half, BUL FC levelled matters at the hour mark courtesy of a goal from striker Jean Pierre Kambale.
However, their celebrations short lived as Mbarara City retaliated with a second through a penalty kick two minutes later courtesy of Emmanuel Ibe Obinna.
Mbarara City held on to their fragile lead in the final 20 minutes to earn their first ever victory since the start of the second round.
The slim win elevates the Mbarara outfit out of the relegation zone to the 12th position leapfrogging Express, UPDF FC and Proline FC in the process with 26 points collected from 24 games.
Defeat leaves BUL FC 9th on the Uganda Premier League table with 29 points garnered from 24 games.
Mbarara City will intensify their fight for survival when they visit Bright Stars at Mwererwe in their next match on Saturday 21st April.
BUL will visit army side UPDF FC in their next league fixture on
Tuesday 28th April at Bombo barracks grounds.
