Mbarara City shocked Abudallah Mubiru’s Police FC with a 2-1 victory in the closing fixture of round 6 at the Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara.
Defender Hillary Mukundane gave the Ankole Lions the lead as early as the 3rd minute when he headed home a well curved free kick from Bassey Method delivered from just near the corner flag.
The 38th minute saw Abudallah Mubiru take off Albert Mugisa and replacing him with Saaf Basani and with in no minute, the change paid off.
Basani’s first touch levelled matters with barely seconds on the muddy pitch when slotted home a nice effort to silence a mammoth crowd of home fans.
Siraje Musindo restored the hosts’ lead when he nicely curved home a free kick to beat Douglas Kisembo in the Police goal 10 minutes into the second stanza.
Vialli Binomugisha made some changes to kill off the game with the introduction of Brian Ahebwa and Pistis Balenge for Elieza Okorier and goal scorer Siraje Musindo respectively.
Captain Asuman Harishe, Yesseri Waibi, Police’s skipper Martin Mpuuga and Yasin Mugume all went into the referee’s books with yellow cards.
Mbarara City held on to secure victory maintaining their unbeaten home record that roots way back in August 2016 when the team was still in Big League.
Vialli Bainomugisha the Mbarara City tactician was elated with the result and promised to do the same in the next fixture.
“We worked hard for this, planned and polished our mistakes which were mainly off pitch but all in all am happy that we have taken home all the 3 points from a big team. Now our main focus is on the next away game against Soana FC where by we want to change the look of the away results since we have not won away from home in the league”.
The win elevates Mbarara City to the 8th position with 8 points whilst Police lies 5th with 10 points.
Mbarara City will take on Soana in the next game on Tuesday at Kavumba and Police will entertain Kirinya Jinja SS at home on Wednesday 25th October 2017.
