Mawa’s late winner over Djibouti sends Uganda to 2021 AFCON U17 tourney

Oscar Mawa netted the all important goal as the Uganda U17 team edged Djibouti in first semifinal of the CECAFA U17 Championship in Rwanda.

Mawa struck at the death of the contest to send Uganda to the AFCON U17 Championship slated for March next year in Morocco.

This was also his sixth goal of the tournament having scored a hat trick in Uganda’s 5-0 mauling of Kenya and a brace against Ethiopia.

During the game, Hamza Lutalo’s charges had missed chances with Travis Mutyaba, Hassan Mubiru all coming close in the opening stages.

Uganda will now await the winner between Ethiopia and Tanzania in the second semifinal.

The Cubs will be featuring at the AFCON U17 for the second time in their history having previously played in the 2019 edition, finishing third in group A of the competition.
