MATCH REPORT : SC Villa return to winning ways

By: David Gombe

Sc Villa returned to winning ways today at Masaka recreational grounds with a 1-0 win over Mbarara City. Yubu Bogere’s second half goal sealed all three points for the record league champions.

SC Villa came into this encounter on the back of losing 1-0 in their previous fixture away to Vipers Sc and needed to bounce back and return to winning ways, while the visitors Mbarara City were unbeaten in the 3 games played so far.

SC Villa started brilliantly bossing possession in the opening half but couldn’t find a way through past a well organized Mbarara City defence led by Asuman Harishe and Hillary Mukundane, thus ending goalless in the first 45 minutes.

The home side kicked off the second half again on the front foot and with 53 minutes off the clock Alex Kitata was close to giving SC Villa the lead, but had his header off a Geoffrey Lwesibawa kissed the bar.

The best chance of the game however, fell to Mbarara City winger Swed Satugombe in the 68th minute who only had the keeper to beat, but he shot wide, keeping the scores at 0-0.

In the 73rd minute SC Villa’s Martin Kizza had all the time and space in the world to give his side the lead but decided to shoot over the bar.
With 7 minutes to time the pressure from the home side finally paid off as substitute Yubu Bogere headed in a Geoffrey Lwesibawa cross to give Sc Villa a deserving 1-0 lead and eventually the match winner.

The win takes Sc Villa on 7 points in four games played. Mbarara city’s unbeaten run were given an abrupt end and they will need to pick themselves up after the international break.
