Last season’s runners up and record champions SC Villa will start 2017-18 Azam Uganda premier league season with a home tie against Soana fc at Masaka Recreation ground.

Soana head coach Shafik Bisaso will be facing his former pay masters after being sacked in February this year. His counterpart, Wasswa Bbosa comes in this fixture after the addition of former player Paul Mutakabala to his technical bench.

Villa tactician Bbosa will rely on Simon Serunkuma, George Senkaaba, Mama’s Yaya Kakooza, Vitalis Tabu and Ambrose Kirya to find goals.

This will also be Bernard Muwanga’s first match as Villa captain following the departure of last season’s skipper Tadeo Lwanga to Vipers. Muwanga will be deputised by Henry Katongole and Abel Eturude.

Shafik Bisaso will bank on the services of Anthony Bongole, Owen Kasule, swift winger Allan Kayiwa and former Villa midfielder Emma Kalyowa.

The two sides have met a total of 8 times in the league since 2013 when Soana was promoted to the top flight. SC Villa has dominated the encounters winning 4 of them and drawing 3 times. Soana has won only one game against SC Villa through a 2-1 in the 2015-16 season.

This is the second time Villa is playing Soana on the first day of the season, the first one came in the 2014-15 Villa emerging 1-0 victors courtesy of a Karim Ndugwa goal in Mityana.

Last season, the two played a 1-1 draw at Namboole before settling for a Villa 2-0 win in the second round at Kavumba in a match where Emmanuel Okwi and Siraje Turyamuhebwa got sent off.
