MATCH PREVIEW: Poor travellers UPDF visit Mbarara City

Mbarara City play hosts to army side UPDF at the Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara as Round 11 of Azam Uganda premier league takes center stage.

UPDF FC are the worst travellers in the league having lost all their five encounters played on the road this season.

The hosts come into this fixture after sacking head coach Vialli Bainomugisha following a string of poor results. Salim his assistant is expected to take helm tentatively as they await to announce a new coach early next week.

UPDF FC come into this tie after holding Vipers to a 1-1 draw at Bombo in the midweek while Mbarara lost 1-0 to Kirinya Jinja SS in Bugembe.

Mbarara City has won only once in the previous five fixtures whereas their opponents UPDF haven’t won a singer match in five, losing three and drawing twice.

UPDF head coach believes that his team have began to respond positively to his methods and this is will be an important factor as they battle to be the drop. He says,

” It’s quite unfortunate that we have been dragged into the relegation fight this early but we shall soldier on”.

” I was very disappointed in the result against Vipers but very impressed with my team that they showed great resolve and fighting spirit. We hope to build on that as we confront Mbarara City. We hope for the best today.”

Steven Bogere will miss out on the services of left back Isaa Mubiru (muscle injury) and striker Walter Rubankene (knee injury) but will bank on Julius Malingumu, Odong Mustafa and Ezekiel Katende for inspiration. Robert Nakyenalire also returns after serving his suspension against Vipers.

The Ankole Lions welcome Ibrahim Orit and Sam Kansime from suspension while Boniface Amani and Brian Aheebwa have also shaken off injuries after missing the club’s trip to Jinja.

Marko Bassey, Siraje Musindo are ruled out because of Malaria, striker Fred Kalanzi is also unavailable with a knock as long term absentee Santos Hakizimana remains on the sidelines.

UPDF FC lies 16th on the Azam Uganda premier league table with 6 points from 10 games while Mbarara City sit 12th with 10 points.
